role of women in society

according to john bradshaw (1995)
women are socialized to be
"self-sacrificers".

i'd like to share an email letter
by a former colleague of mine
(with her permission) who is now
a full-time homemaker which lends
some credence to bradshaw's
observation.

Dear Rayx,

Before i left for singapore, i went for an executive check-up since i will be living in a foreign land as i thought and therefore might as well come prepared physically as well. I tagged along my sister and made her go through it as well. We both discovered that we have myoma and breasts lumps and cysts....

... Tita Baby said that i have always been concerned about others...about caring for my family...about my spirituality and less about myself particularly about my health. I realized that as a wife and mother, parang na-programmed na ata sa akin na ako ang number one caregiver. Lalo na nang we were at singapore...i told the Lord that i can't afford to get sick. HE wanted me to have a SABBATH..a time to rest...to be taken cared of. HE is indeed a different and wonderful GOD and loving FATHER. HE does not want anything less!...

So from the time that i was brought to the hospital...to the breast clinic for a wire guided localization first before the surgery...the LORD enveloped me with His care through the presence of my husband and the prayers hurled at me. I missed din pala being pampered...na maalagaan nang asawa ko the way i do with him and the kids more often. The short time we were at the hospital made me remember the time na kami pa lang dalawa. Kaya this article made me reflect that in marriage...we, wives and mothers get lost in the caring business that we have been somehow seen as superwomen who may not need as much caring the way we did. But we do...i do....we need to be carried by our husbands literally!... God bless!
